Danae, Klimt and I

Klimt is for sure one of my favourite master... ever.

I love the sweetness and strength of his lights and shadows, 

the way he treats the skin, the way he represents women...

I like to imagine we have a special link... 

Maybe because we were born the same day, July 14th 

(though not the same year, ;) )

and because my first name is Emilie, like his beloved muse...

and we both love cats ;)

Klimt est certainement l'un de mes peintres préférés ... pour toujours.
J'aime la douceur et la force de ses lumières et ses ombrés,
la façon dont il traite la peau, la façon dont il représente les femmes ...
Je me plais à imaginer que nous avons un lien spécial ...
Peut-être parce que nous sommes nés le même jour, le 14 Juillet
(mais pas la même année,;))
et parce que mon prénom est Emilie, comme sa muse et compagne...
et puis, nous aimons tous les deux chats;) 

 I already painted 2 pictures inspired by his work...

One just for my pleasure when my son was born.

  J'ai déjà peint 2 toiles inspirées par son travail ...
Une juste pour mon plaisir, quand mon fils est né. 

 And a second one for a group show at "Compound gallery".

The theme was "Great masters revisited" and of course I had to choose Gustav ;)

et la seconde pour une exposition collective à la "Compound Gallery".
Le thème était «les grands maîtres revisités», et bien sûr je devais choisir Gustav ;)

 I was happy it didn't sold. 

Weirdly I have never after presented them for sale.

They are my "Private Collection" ;)

J'étais plutôt contente qu'elle n'est pas été vendue.
Bizarrement, après, je ne les ai jamais plus proposées à la vente.
Elles sont ma "collection privée";)

This time I try my hand to his Danae.

I am surprised and happy in the same time 

that she is not gone yet ;)

I have always been fascinated by snakes...

I don't know why... 

maybe because of their bad reputation...

and bad omen.

I find them very sensual...

C'est l'un de mes tableaux préférés.

Je suis surprise et contente à la fois qu'il ne soit pas encore parti.

J'ai toujours aimé les serpents, je ne sais pas pourquoi...

Peut-être à cause de leur mauvaise réputation...

de leur mauvais augure...

Je les trouve très sensuels.

Lhasa

Here's a painting I did for the collective show 

at Curiosité Gallery. 

I think I named her Lhasa because of 

the little red flying fishes in the sky... 

It reminded me of the song by Lhasa de Sela... 

"Los peces en el rio",

(and yes I know the Gipsy Kings sang it before her... 

but well... I prefer Lhasa's song.

Lhasa is now available,

I'm in a Klimtian Mood these days :)

The year of the dragon....

Un petit bilan de l'année 2011 s'impose...

et il faut bien avouer qu'elle aura été un peu bizarre cette fichue année...

pleine de mauvais choix professionnels... 

It seems that a small balance of 2011 is required ...
and I must admit this damn year has been a little weird,
full of bad career choices ...

Le livre auquel je me suis consacrée pendant presque un an...

ne fut rien d'autre qu'une perte de temps et d'énergie considérable. 

 The book I worked on for almost a year ...
was nothing but a waste of time and of energy.

L'histoire en elle-même mériterait un post, tellement ce fut de la fumisterie en barre.  

The story itself could deserve a whole post, for it was so much bullshit.

Finalement ce qui m'énerve le plus c'est d'avoir dit non 

à d'autres projets d'édition sérieux, et à des expos... 

Tout ça pour une bande de rigolos...

et je ne peux même pas dire qu'on ne m'avait pas prévenue!

In fact, what really drives me up the wall is to have refused
other serious publishing projects, and exhibitions ...
All this fuss for a bunch of jokers ...
and I can not even say that I had not been warned! 

 

Maintenant, il me reste à me faire payer pour le travail effectué... 

j'hésite même à leur facturer des dommages et intérêts pour le manque à gagner. 

Now they still have to pay me for the work I have done...

and I hesitate to charge them for the loss of profit...

 

Je n'ai jamais aimé qu'on se paye ma tête, 

mais apparemment dans le milieu de l'édition c'est habituel...

I hate when people mess with me 

but it seems that it's fashionable in the world of publishing.

Mais bon ce qui contre-balance ce bilan, 

c'est que sur le plan personnel l'année a été vraiment belle

et que nous avons eu une magnifique petite poupette *.*

But anyway, on a personal level this year was really beautiful
and we had a marvellous and splendid baby girl *.*

So I guess 2011 was not soooo bad ;) 

Bref, je mise sur 2012, 

sous le signe du dragon ;) 

I place all my hopes on 2012, 

under the sign of the dragon ;)

 

Je me recentre sur les expos, j'efface et je recommence 

et surtout je ne me démoralise pas! 

J'arrête de me comparer aux autres, 

et surtout j'arrête de trop attendre des autres!

I refocuse on the exhibitions.
  I erase and start again.
And more than anything I won't be demoralized or disheartened!
I stop comparing myself to others,
and mostly I stop expecting too much of others!

Et je garde l'essentiel :)

 And I'll stick to the essential :)

La prochaine expo à laquelle je participe a

Ca m'a donné envie de relire
"Confessions of an English Opium Eater" de Thomas de Quincey.
Et Baudelaire aussi ;)

L'expo à la Galerie Nana est bientôt finie (enfin je crois).
Pour ceux qui sont allés là-bas et qui n'ont pas vu ma toile...
c'est normal.
Je l'ai faite décrochée au vernissage...
Dans l'esprit SkyDoll, elle convenait parfaitement...
chacun pouvait faire corps avec elle,
voire plus si affinités.
Donc pour la préserver je l'ai faite enlever.
Même la plus aguerrie des prostituées
a un nombre maximal de passes par soir.
Et puis après ça a été la toile invisible.
Sur leur site aussi. Mauvais prix, mauvais pseudo...


The exhibition at Galerie Nana is almost over (I think).
For those who went there and who have not seen my painting ...
this is normal.
I had it taken off at the opening ...
Actually, for Skydoll, in mind, it was perfect ...
everyone could do with her body, possibly more.
So to preserve her, I had her taken off the stairs.
Even the most seasoned prostitutes has
a maximum number of passes per night.
And then it was the invisible paniting.
On their website too.
Wrong prices, wrong nickname ...

Enfin voilà elle sera bientôt en vente
via mon blog ou mon site, dans de meilleures conditions.

Sky Doll Tribute à la Gallery Nana

Ces derniers temps j'ai travaillé sur un hommage
à la bd "Sky Doll" de Barbucci et Canepa,
pour l'exposition qui se tiendra à la Gallery Nana, à Paris.

Those past few days I have been working on a tribute to
"Sky Doll" comic by Barbucci and Canepa,
for the exhibition to be held at Gallery Nana in Paris.





Cette fois-ci, j'ai choisi une Sky Doll, comme Noa, mais au destin différent.
This time, I chose a Sky Doll, like Noa, but with a different fate.

Ces idées de fantasme et de poupée me font penser à Pygmalion et Galatée.
Alors imaginez juste, quelque part sur Papathea,
qu'un Pygmalion tombe fou amoureux de la poupée
qu'il a lui-même confectionné, et que cette poupée,
grâce à une ancienne déesse, prenne vie.

These ideas of fantasy and dolls remind me of Pygmalion and Galatea.
So just imagine, somewhere on Papathea,
a Pygmalion falling deeply in love with the doll
he crafted himself, and that this doll
thanks to an ancient goddess, comes to life.

Alors par où commencer?
Et bien par la route peut-être...

Nous sommes partis à 7h30 et arrivés à 20h!
C'était un peu l'horreur!
Bouchons, travaux, pluie ... et des camions par milliers!
Même le gps s'est fichu de nous...

And here I am back from Hanover, safe and sound ;)
and delighted!
So where to start?
The journey may be ...
We left at 7:30 am and arrived at 8 pm!
It was a bit too much!
Traffic jam, roadworks, rain ... and trucks by thousands!
And look at the GPS : isn't it ironic?


Sans compter avec la menace de pénurie d'essence
et du blocage des autoroutes par les routiers en France!
Et puis bien sûr, les sandwichs infâmes à 8 euros des aires de repos -_-'
Bon... finalement ça s'est fait!...
mais la prochaine fois nous irons en avion ;)

Plus the threat of shortages of gasoline
and the blocking of highways by truckers in France!
And then of course the infamous sandwiches at 8 euros
in the highways resting places-_-'
Well ... finally we did it! ...
but next time we'll go by plane ;)

Une fois à la galerie
nous avons été super bien accueilli par Torben.
Le temps de décharger les toiles, de récupérer les clefs
et hop, direction l'hôtel... trop bien!
D'ailleurs en passant, les allemands
sont vraiment super gentils, serviables et aimables!
Et sur les conseils de l'hôtesse d'accueil,
direction un petit resto/bar/brasserie pas loin.
Et bonne surprise aussi,
on a mangé le meilleur hamburger maison possible!
Nous avons fait honneur à la bière aussi,
pour nous remettre de cette journée
et puis aussi parce qu'on était en Allemagne, hein ;)
Pour ceux que ça intéresse, c'est le "Mister Q".

Once in the gallery
we were very well received by Torben.
The time to unload the pictures of the car, retrieve the keys and hop,
to the hotel ...
which was very nice!
By the way, Germans are really super nice,
helpful and friendly people!
And on the advice of the receptionist,
we headed to a little restaurant / bar / pub nearby.
And we ate the best burger possible!
And I don't say that just because we were starving ;)
We have done justice to beer to make us feel better
and also because we were in Germany, eh ;)
For those interested, we were at "Mister Q".



Le lendemain, nous avons rencontré Sebastian, (adorable aussi),
qui nous a emmené dans un magasin d'art de psychopathe!
Enfin c'est surtout la diversité et les prix qui sont incroyables...
Enfin moi j'ai bien bavé en tout cas, surtout sur les cadres ;)
On a réussi à sortir de là juste avec un pot de peintures, deux marqueurs, et trois pinceaux...
même moi je n'y crois pas ;)

The next day we met Sebastian (who's also trully adorable)
who took us to a psychopath's Art store!
In fact it is especially the diversity and the prices which are incredibly low ...
And I can say I have drooled on the frames ;)
I don't know how, but we managed to get out of there
with just a pot of paint, two markers, and three paint brushes ...
I can't believe it ;)



Et zou, direction la galerie, où nous avons peint un peu et accroché tous les tableaux.

And zouuu, to the the gallery again, where we painted and hung all the paintings.



La typo est de Moon!
Pour ceux qui se demandaient, j'ai emprunté le titre de mon expo à Jonathan Coe.
Je trouve que ça correspond bien à mon univers et à ma thématique.
Tous les tableaux présentés ont un lien plus ou moins direct avec la littérature.

The typo is a Moon's design!
For those who wondered, I borrowed the title of my exhibition from a Jonathan Coe's book.
I think it fits well with my world and my theme.
For all paintings have a more or less direct link with literature.

Accrochage des toiles, réglage des lumières...
Tout était prêt.

Hanging the paintings, setting the lights ...
Everything was ready.


Le temps de manger et nous avons eut une petite heure pour nous promener dans les alentours de l'hôtel. C'est à dire pas assez de temps :/
En plus il faisait un froid de canard... 6°C et très humide.

Time to eat and we had a little time for us to walk around the hotel.
Ie not enough time : /
In addition it was freezing cold ... 6 ° C and high humidity.

Bon l'avantage c'est que ça a un peu dompté mes boucles
(même si ce n'est pas super probant sur la photo ;) )
Le désavantage, c'est que je n'ai même pas pu mettre la petite robe prévue :/

En nous baladant, nous avons vu une installation un peu bizarre et rigolote quand même ;)

Well the advantage is that it has tamed my curls a bit
(even if not very obvious on the photo;) )
The disadvantage is that I could not even put the dress I had planned to wear :/

By walking around, we saw an installation that is a bit weird and funny anyway ;)


Retour à la galerie pour l'heure de vérité!

Back to the gallery for the moment of truth!




Pour les choses purement terre à terre, la bière était parfaite ;)
J'ai gouté à une sorte de mélange bière/jus de pomme super bizarre, surtout avec un chewing-gum à la chlorophyle! Ca m'a fait le même effet que boire un café après m'être brosser les dents... une sensation étrange et un goût pas terrible ;)
A réessayer la prochaine fois !

Concerning purely factual things, beer was perfect ;)
I also tasted a kind of beer / apple juice mix which was super weird,
especially just after chewing a chlorophyll gum !
It made me the same effect as drinking coffee just after brushing my teeth ...
a strange sensation and taste not so good ;)
To try again next time!


C'était vraiment chouette, mais très frustrant en même temps!
Voir les gens regarder mes toiles, pointer des détails du doigt,
sourire, commenter et ne pas pouvoir comprendre!!!
Argh...un vrai supplice !

It was really nice, but very frustrating at the same time!
See people looking at my paintings, pointing details with the finger ,
smiling, making comments and I could not even understand a single word!
Argh ... a real torture!




Il y a eut de jolies rencontres et de jolis échanges,
malgré la timidité qu'il y a avait des deux côtés je crois.
Merci à ceux qui sont venus me parler!

I've met charming people and had nice conversations with you,
and this despite the shyness that there were on two sides, I think.
So thanks a lot to those who came and talk to me!

Pour ceux qui n'ont pas osé, et bien peut-être la prochaine fois ;)

For those who did not dare, well maybe next time ;)



Alors il restera de ce voyage quelques frustrations quand même!
Celle imposée par la barrière de la langue!
Je souhaiterai être polyglotte ;)
Celle d'avoir fait un voyage éclair et de ne pas avoir pu visiter Hanovre,
Berlin (dont on avait jamais été aussi proche :'( ), Munich, Würzburg, ...
Et puis je n'ai même pas eut le temps de voir le travail de Sebastian en vrai!
Et ça, c'est nul!

So I'll keep in mind some frustrations about this trip!
That imposed by the language barrier! I would like to be multilingual ;)
That of having made a whirlwind trip and not have had the time to visit Hanover, Berlin (which had never been so close : '(), Munich, Würzburg, ...
And I did not even see in real the work of Sebastian !
And that is a pity!

"Erzebeth"

Voici ma petite" Erzebeth".

Erzebeth, comme la comtesse hongroise de la famille des Bathory.
Je ne sais pas si vous la connaissez
mais la légende dit que la "Comtesse Dracula"
avait pour habitude de tuer et de se baigner
dans le sang de jeunes vierges afin de rester éternellement jeune...

C'est un tableau de Tom Bagshaw
qui m'a inspiré cette vision de la Comtesse avec sa toile "Kuchisake Onna".
Un autre personnage de légende fort sympathique lui aussi ;)

Demain si vous êtes sages, je vous montrerai mon dernier dessin sur Tintoretto!

Et puis, dans une semaine je serais à Hanovre pour le vernissage à la Nice/Nice Gallery. J'espère vous y rencontrer :)

Here is my little "Erzebeth.

Erzebeth, as the Hungarian Countess from the Bathory's family .
Do you know her?
The legend says that the "Countess Dracula"
used to kill and bathe in the blood of young virgins to remain eternally young ...

It is a picture of Tom Bagshaw who inspired me this vision of the Countess with his painting "Kuchisake Onna". Another very nice and sweet legendary figure ;)

Tomorrow if you're kind, I'll show you my latest drawing on Tintoretto!

And don't forget, in a week I'd be in Hanover for the opening at the Nice / Nice Gallery.
